SERENGETI
The Serengeti Ecosystem
The most well known and visited National Park or Reserve in Tanzania is undoubtedly the Serengeti
National Park.
The Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest on earth. The essential features of climate, vegetation
and fauna have barely changed in the past million years. The remains of early man have been
discovered in Olduvai Gorge, estimated to have been alive about two million years ago. Many of the
patterns of life, death and migration are as old as the hills themselves.
The Serengeti has a huge range of accommodation, ranging from large lodges to small luxury lodges
and basic safari camps. A popular choice is mobile camping – light weight safari camps that move
location in order to see migrating herds.
