Mr Harris and the group commenced their journey at Ole-Sereni Hotel in
Nairobi, the only city in the world that boasts a national game park
within its precincts.
The next day they travelled to the River Camp in Tarangire National Park
for 2 nights for the start of their safari. The tastefully furnished camp is
located just a stone’s throw from the Tarangire River, whilst the park itself
boasts one of the highest elephant populations in Tanzania.
The next stop for the group was the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and
the crater, which is Tanzania’s greatest wildlife showpiece, with superb
game viewing. The views from the Sopa Lodge on the eastern side of the
crater rim, where the party stayed, are truly breathtaking.
The group then headed to the Serengeti to complete the ‘northern
circuit’ of game reserves. They travelled in June which is often the time
the wildebeest migrate north leaving the Serengeti across the Grumeti
which in 1858 John Hanning Speke discovered to be the possible source
of the Nile.
One night at Speke Bay Lodge helped break up the journey as they
travelled across the border into Kenya, before the short flight to the
Masai Mara for the final stay of their journey, Ashnil Mara Camp. The
camp is situated at the confluence of the Mara and the Talek rivers, and
occupies an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting.
The group certainly packed plenty into their two week journey, and
stayed at a mix of popular and lesser
known lodges. As a specialist in
East Africa for over 40 years
we have access to a
multitude of camps and
lodges, which is one of
the reasons the group
approached us initially.
They thoroughly enjoyed
their African wildlife
adventure across two
countries and want to
return for more next year!
