Bwindi National Park:
Situated in southwest
Uganda, the park is part of the Bwindi Impenetrable
Forest. The national park comprises 330 square
kilometres of jungle forests and contains both
montane and lowland forest, and is accessible only
on foot. The park is best known for its superb gorilla
tracking, but it also provides a refuge to elephants,
chimpanzees, monkeys and many bird species.
Queen Elizabeth National Park:
Located in
western Uganda, the park was established in
1954 and named after Queen Elizabeth II. It is
known for its wildlife including huge numbers of
hippos, elephants, leopards, lions and
chimpanzees and is now home to 95 species of
mammal and 500 species of birds. The area at
the south western tip of Queen Elizabeth
National Park is famed for its tree climbing male
lions, resplendent with their black manes.
Kibale Forest National Park:
Formed in 1993
to preserve an area of forest previously used for
logging. The dense and beautiful rainforest,
reputedly one of the best in Africa, is home to
250 species of birds and a number of impressive
mammals, however, the park is most famous for
its protected primates. Common chimpanzee, as
well as several species of Central African
monkey including the grey-cheeked Mangabey,
the Central African red Colobus and L'Hoest's
monkey are in great numbers. Other monkeys
inhabiting the park are baboons, black and
white Colobus, red tailed monkey, blue monkey,
Brazza's monkey, potto and bushbaby.
