Ashnil Samburu Camp
Stuart and Yvonne Weston wanted to celebrate their 40th wedding
anniversary with a very special safari experience. Stuart wanted to
arrange a week’s holiday with maximum game viewing time, visit a
few national parks, stay in luxurious lodges, plus he wanted to add
some special extras as a surprise for his wife. With the help of our
sales team they arranged a fantastic flying safari with some
personal touches to celebrate their wedding anniversary.
Their first stop was Samburu National Park, which is only a 70
minute flight from Nairobi, and they were soon enjoying the
comforts, surroundings and game drives at Ashnil Samburu Camp
which is set on the banks of the Ewaso Nyero River. Samburu is one
of Kenya's more northerly game parks, which is home to some
indigenous animals found nowhere else in Africa.
They then flew to the Masai Mara where they stayed for three
nights at Main Governors Camp. Originally reserved exclusively for
Kenya's colonial Governors, the camp is steeped in history and
reveals a much romanticised view of the 'real safari'.
At Governors, Stuart had arranged for several treats. The first, a
romantic sundowner, where they had the vehicle to themselves and
sat on the banks of the Mara River sipping wine as the sun slowly
set on the horizon. A bush dinner had also been arranged,
however, due to heavy rain it was not possible. Instead the manager
organised a meal on their balcony with food and Champagne, an
anniversary cake plus entertainment provided by Masai singers and
dancers. Mrs Weston was pleasantly surprised by all the little
personal touches provided by the lodge and organised by Mr
Weston and our team.

The bush dinner had been arranged for the evening of the rain
and the manager deemed it too dangerous to go out to the site.
Instead he arranged a private dinner with Masai dancers and
singers on the verandah of our tent, plus an anniversary cake.
There was no charge made for either the Sundowner
Champagne nor the dinner which included a bottle of wine! My
wife was delighted with all the surprises.
