'Safari' is the Swahili word meaning 'journey' and, having already visited
the Masai Mara several times, the Hunt family wanted to create their own
journey from Nairobi to the coast. The journey was achieved using short
drives between game parks, working east towards the coast. Travelling in
their exclusive vehicle meant they were free to move about as they wished
and spend however long they wanted watching a particular animal.
From Nairobi they headed to Amboseli, which is home to an abundance
of mammals and over 400 species of birds, which Mr Hunt, a keen
photographer, was particularly eager to see.
A real highlight was seeing a serval cat on an Amboseli evening drive.
After three days in Amboseli the party travelled to Tsavo West, with
plenty of time en route to see rural Kenya. The birdlife in Tsavo West is
extensive, which was of special interest to Mr Hunt. The last national
park visited was Tsavo East, from where the group visited the David
Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage which is home to rescued baby elephants
and rhinos.
After such a diverse and exciting 6-day safari, it was time for some
relaxation on Mombasa's beach and the Travellers Club on the north
coast, with its crystal waters, proved ideal for Mr Hunt and the party.
On the return journey the Hunts stayed in Nairobi overnight, the only
city in the world that boasts a national game park within its precincts.
Sure enough Mr Hunt saw more than twenty giraffes and two groups of
zebras from the hotel bar in the evening. In which other city would you
get such an amazing opportunity to witness wildlife?
Travellers Club, Mombasa
Following our recent holiday I
wanted to say thank you to all
of the people who made it such a
superb holiday.
From Joyce through to Alphonce, and
not forgetting Duncan at Travellers
Club, all of your customer-facing staff are
doing you excellent service.
I particularly wanted a close photo of a
lilac breasted roller to add to my collection.
Within less than half an hour of entering
Tsavo East, there was the promised bird.
