Sable Mountain Lodge
Sable Mountain Lodge blends seamlessly with its surroundings and is almost invisible from the air.
It is located over two small hills right on the northwest boundary of the Selous Reserve affording stunning views of surrounding miombo woodland, the plains of Selous as well as the distant Uluguru Mountains.
Selous Game Reserve is a World Heritage Site. At 56,000 square kilometres it is the second largest protected area in the world. The landscape is a combination of miombo forests, savannahs and thickets. It is particularly pretty in January and February, after the short rains of late November and December. At this time, the reserve looks stunning, a mosaic of open grassland and lush green trees - quite a contrast with the dry and dusty plains of the northern parks. By February, the reserve is full of young animals - a wonderful time to visit.
The Selous experience is very much an exclusive one. It is possible to cover vast distances over several days of wonderful game viewing without passing another human soul.
