This adventurous tour travels from one of the lowest and hottest places on the planet to the mountains of Tigray.

This journey of contrasts will have you visiting markets, alien landscapes, rock-hewn churches, climbing mountains and spending time with local communities. It is packed full of excitement and adventure, plus time to relax and appreciate this supremely beautiful and diverse country.

Day 1 Addis Ababa

Met on arrival at the airport and transfer to your hotel.
Overnight : Jupiter International Hotel

Day 2 Axum

Fly to Axum and enjoy a sightseeing tour which includes visiting the Archeological Museum of Axum, the Cathedral of St. Mary of Zion which is believed to be the last resting place of the Original Ark of the Covenant. In the afternoon visit the famous 'Stele field' (4th Century AD and UNESCO World Heritage Site, the ruin palace and tomb of King Kaleb and King Gebre Meskel (5th and 6th Century AD) and the residence of the legendary Queen of Sheba (9th century BC)

Day 3 Hausien

Drive to Hausien, visiting the ancient Temple of Yeha (5th Century BC), and the rock-hewn church of Tigray, Michael Milhazhengi. Enjoy the scenic and historic range of Adowa Mountains on your journey. From your lodge, you can enjoy the sunset behind the picturesque Geraltha Mountains.
Overnight: Gehralta Lodge.

Day 4 Mekelle

Visit the rock-hewn churches of Mariam Korkor, Abune Yemata, and Wukro Cherkos, drive 150 km to Mekelle, the regional capital of Tigray.
Overnight: Axum Hotel.

Day 5 Ashmed Ela

Early morning, drive to Ahmed Ela, visiting the people of Tigre and the nomadic people of Afar. At Ahmed Ela, visit the deep-water wells used by the nomadic people of Afar, and the interesting Camel Caravans, which transport bars of salt to the Tigray Highlands.
Overnight: Camping.
Meals : Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 6 Dallol - Ahmed Ela

In the morning, drive to one of the lowest points on earth, Dallol, in the Denakil Depression (116 metres below sea level) to see the wonderful and colourful formation of sulfur and phosphorus. After lunch enjoy a visit to the salt lake of Asale and discover how people get salt in traditional ways.

Day 7 Dodom - Erta'ale

Drive to Dodom, arrange mules to transport luggage and camping gear, and around sunset start hiking to the active volcanoe of Erta'ale, which takes about 5 - 6 hours. Spend, the rest of the night at the rim.

Day 8 Erta'ale - Afdera

Trek back to your car, and drive to the salt lake of Afdera.
Overnight: Camping.
Meals : Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 9 Afdera - Awash

Visit Lake Afdera in the morning, drive across the desert landscape to Semera. En route stop to visit hot springs.
Overnight: Genet Hotel.
Meals : Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

Day 10 Addis Ababa - Departure

Drive back to Addis Ababa. Time permitting, enjoy a farewell dinner at one of the best traditional restaurants, where you will taste a variety of Ethiopian food and be entertained by folk dancers. Then transfer to Addis Ababa Airport for your onward journey.
