Take The Train Take The Train

6 Nights

Start this 6-night tour in Pretoria, popularly known as the 'Jacaranda City' because of the thousands of jacaranda trees planted in its streets, parks and gardens.

Then enjoy a night on the famous Blue Train, a 'Palace on Wheels', as it travels south to Cape Town. The Blue Train was withdrawn from service during World War 2, extensively refurbished and modernized and now defines a new era of luxury travel.

The last 4 nights are spent in wonderful Cape Town, where we have included private day tours to ensure you see all the highlights of this vibrant, cosmopolitan city.

This tour also operates in reverse. If you wish to add other places to the tour, we can tailor-make it to suit you.

Day 1 Johannesburg - Pretoria

Met on arrival in Johannesburg and driven to Pretoria. Explore the city which is steeped in history, including the Voortrekker Monument, Church Square and the Union Buildings, the site of the emotionally charged scene which played out at Nelson Mandela's joyful inauguration as president in 1994.

Day 2 Blue Train

Transfer to Pretoria Station where The Blue Train awaits you. Enjoy the elegance and glamour of the coaches, and understated luxury, as you board the train, headed to Cape Town. The Blue Train is a wonderful way to explore South Africa's beautiful countryside and rich heritage. Butlers, silver trays, welcoming cocktails - The Good Life takes on a new dimension with The Blue Train. En route, we stop for an excursion to Kimberley, where you step back in time to the days of the diamond rush. You'll understand the challenges of life then, as you explore the exhibits, and imagine the lives of the adventurers and their families.

Day 3 Cape Town

A warm welcome to Cape Town, affectionately known as the Mother City! You will be transferred from Cape Town train station to the luxurious Queen Victoria Hotel. Luxury and sophistication emanate through to the 3 suites and 32 luxury rooms, each one individually designed. Most of the rooms have panoramic views of either Table Mountain or Cape Town Harbour, and all of them have a fully stocked mini bar and Charlotte Rhys pamper accessories.

Day 4 Cape Town

Today embark on a full day private tour of the Peninsula. Cruise along the exquisite stretch of coastline known as Millionaire's Paradise, from Clifton to Camps Bay, to the exclusive beach hamlet of Llandudno, towards the charming working harbour of Hout Bay. Enjoy a Seal Island cruise. Wind along the legendary Chapman's Peak Drive, hugging the cliffs and relishing the stunning ocean views, before arriving at your lunch spot (payable locally) of choice at the Cape of Good Hope Section of the Table Mountain National Park. We meander back along the coast towards the City, visiting the historic naval port of Simon's Town and the endearing penguin colony at Boulder's Beach. You venture inland to your last stop of the day at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. With the sun setting over the tall peaks of Table Mountain the last rays sparkle on the trees and flowers.

Day 5 Cape Town

A full day private tour of the Winelands, enjoying the breathtaking scenery and the area's rich history, Visit the exquisite little town of Franschhoek, pass by the impressive Huguenot Monument, and in a town with a reputation for gourmet fare, where else could we choose to enjoy lunch (payable locally). Continue to the heady heights of the Helshoogte Mountain Pass to visit the charming university town of Stellenbosch on the other side. Stroll through this little town, absorbing the quaintness, and sneaking into the odd shop or two! Enjoy a wine tasting at two different wine estates where you'll be able to purchase your favourite wine.

Day 6 Cape Town

Enjoy a full day to explore Cape Town at your leisure. You can travel to the cableway station for the ascent to Table Mountain, visit places of interest such as the South Africa Museum, the Malay Quarter and the castle. There is plenty of sightseeing on offer, delicious meals in a variety of different restaurants and lots of entertainment. There will still be time for shopping in the wide selection of shops and craft markets.

Day 7 Depart

After breakfast you will be collected from your hotel and bid farewell to the beautiful city of Cape Town. Transferred to Cape Town International Airport for your onward journey.
