The coastal area features nearly 500 kilometres of tranquil white beaches, golden sand dunes, warm aqua water and idyllic secluded islands. Mombasa is a historic city with an old town and Fort Jesus, now a national monument and museum. It is the second largest city in Kenya, located on an island separated from the mainland by the Likoni Channel to the south, the Makupa Causeway to the west and Nyali Bridge and Mtwapa Bridge to the north. Just a few hours north of Mombasa is Malindi which offers complete relaxation and world-class scuba diving. Watamu, like Malindi, is a small beach village with a few small shops. The beaches are one of the main attractions and the coral reefs offer some of the best diving in Kenya. Further north is the Lamu Archipelago, a small group of islands, each offering a peaceful retreat with endless beaches and crystal clear waters, and a way of life reminiscent of a bygone era.
