The word 'Serengeti' is derived from a Masai word meaning 'endless plains', a fitting title for Tanzania's most famous National Park. The Serengeti can be visited independently on a fly-in safari or as featured in our road safari circuit itineraries. The park is stunning with endless savannah plains, acacia trees and rocky kopjes. The Annual Wildebeest Migration The wildebeest migration takes place over Tanzania’s Serengeti National Park and across into Kenya’s Masai Mara. These parks are part of the same ecosystem divided by a man-made border. During the annual migration more than a million wildebeest, accompanied by fewer zebras undertake the treacherous journey across the Serengeti plains to the Masai Mara. The large population of lions, cheetahs and leopards are permanent residents and feast on them when their paths cross. There are various options of accommodation, from exclusive mobile camps that move along with the migration, designed to place guests as close to the Great Migration as possible, to permanent lodging around the vast Serengeti National Park. Central Serengeti is an ideal location at the heart of the national park, as it is relatively easy to visit the areas of the park from here.
