www.somak.co.uk 47 Community/Conservation There are several ways that guests can get involved or contribute towards the various local projects and initiatives that Saruni is committed to. ✯ 80% of Saruni’s staff are employed from the local communities; by visiting Saruni you are directly supporting responsible community-based tourism. ✯ ‘Pack for a Purpose’ initiative is where you can use any space in your luggage to “pack” items that are needed by local schools and communities. When you take your selected supplies you can drop them at your accommodation knowing they will be delivered directly to the project, or in some cases you can deliver them yourself and see those that will benefit from your generosity. ✯ When staying at either Saruni Samburu or Saruni Rhino, if time allows, guests can visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary which is 2 hours away. A visit here directly supports the wildlife conservation of elephants and other animals being taken care of. Charges apply.
