Exclusive Silver Travel Advisor Kenya Safari - Call 020 8423 3000 for information and to book.

This 9-night tour will be accompanied by award-winning travel writer, Sally Dowling who wrote: "Having worked in the travel industry for over 40 years I have been lucky to travel to some wonderful places. I have been involved with arranging and advising on safaris to Kenya during my career, but I have only had the opportunity to visit once, many moons ago.

Now I have the chance to return, this time accompanying Silver Travellers on a special safari, operated by Africa experts, Somak Holidays.

Kenya is famed for its diverse wildlife and spotting the 'Big Five' is on everyone's wish list, including mine! Hopefully we shall enjoy rewarding game drives in Samburu and the Masai Mara, especially in October when the annual migration should be well underway.

I am looking forward to some memorable experiences along with fellow Silver Travellers, staying in a mix of authentic tented accommodation and comfortable lodges, where we can all be at one with nature for a while."

This safari starts in the Aberdares Range followed by Samburu, home to some of the most unique wildlife in Kenya and a host of birds. Our stay is at the deluxe Ashnil Samburu Camp, spread out along the shady banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, under a thick stand of doum palms and acacia trees that are a feature of the area.

The safari route then takes us to Lake Naivasha where over 240 species of birds have been recorded. Here we can enjoy a boat ride on the beautiful lake.

Finally, the magnificent Masai Mara, famed for its vast numbers of plains game and the spectacular big cats. Here we stay in the luxury Ashnil Mara Camp, which offers an unrivalled position for wildlife spotting, and is close to the action during the annual wildebeest migration.

FOSTER AN ELEPHANT
A recent census revealed an alarming drop in the number of African elephants, with just 352,000 savannah elephants remaining in the countries surveyed.

Pockets of hope remain and, through The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya, you can play a part in the survival of the species by fostering a baby elephant through the DSWT's Orphans' Project, which has achieved worldwide acclaim for its hugely successful elephant rescue and rehabilitation programme.

The Orphans' Project exists to offer hope for the future of Kenya's threatened elephant population as they struggle against the threat of poaching, human-wildlife conflict and loss of habitat. For as little as $50, you can become a foster parent to one of the orphans in their care, following your chosen baby's progress with monthly updates. Visit DSWT foster for more information.
