In honour of World Rhino Day, for this week\u2019s \u2018Spotted on Safari\u2019 we have selected some of our favourite images of rhinos, taken at several game reserves in Kenya, by our experienced driver-guides, as well as some of our team, who have a keen eye for photography. We hope you enjoy seeing them.<\/p>\n

World Rhino Day, which is celebrated every year on the 22 September, highlights\u00a0all five species of rhino: black, white, greater one-horned, Sumatran and Javan rhinos.<\/p>\n

An alarming fact is that in\u00a01960, there were more than 2,000 northern white rhinos in Africa. Today, there are only 2 of them remaining. Sadly the last male of the subspecies, Sudan, died earlier this year on\u00a0 March 19, 2018. He was the father and grandfather of the two remaining rhinos, who are held in captivity in Kenya with round-the-clock armed security against poaching.<\/p>\n

The rhino is truly a magnificent animal and it is sad to see the numbers declining, mainly due to the poaching of rhinos for their horns as well as\u00a0 habitat loss.\u00a0 Both these factors are huge threats to both white and black rhinos.<\/p>\n
