Gorillas In Pnv

This 4-day safari takes you on a tour of Parc National des Volcans.
Journey through the beautiful terraced hillside that characterises much
of Rwanda's landscape, climb the base of the awesome Virunga volcanoes,
visit Dian Fossey's grave and wonder at the magnificent primates of Rwanda.
Home to 300 mountain gorillas, Rwanda offers some of the best
opportunities to see these spectacular creatures in their natural habitat.
Accommodation is in the Virunga Lodge, located just outside the Parc
Nationals de Volcans and offering the most striking views of the
volcanoes peaks and lakes below.
DAY 1 SATURDAY PARC NATIONAL DES VOLCANS (PNV)
Met on arrival and transferred to a local restaurant for lunch. After
a safari briefing depart for Parc National des Volcans (120 kms). Journey north through
the beautiful terraced hillsides, gradually climbing to the base of the awesome Virunga
volcanoes, sometimes with as many as five peaks visible. Overnight at
Volcanoes Virunga Lodge. (l,d)
DAY 2 SUNDAY PARC NATIONAL DES VOLCANS
Go gorilla tracking in Parc National des Volcans (subject to permit
availability at the time of booking). Tracking the gorillas through the
light mountain forest on the slopes of the Virungas is a magical
experience. If you are lucky you can get to the gorillas, spend an hour
with them, and be back at the base in time for a late lunch! Some
gorilla families, however, are more elusive, and tracking can take a
full day, especially when it is wet and muddy.
Overnight At Volcanoes Virunga Lodge. (b,l,d)
DAY 3 MONDAY PARC NATIONAL DES VOLCANS
Maybe go gorilla tracking again in Parc National des Volcans (on
payment of a supplement at time of booking). Alternatively, visit the golden monkeys
or drive to Gisenyi, visit Ross Carr's orphanage and Lake Kivu or climb
the Visoke/Muhavura volcanoes. You may wish to trek to Dian Fossey's grave, or visit
the local school, community projects or walk to Lake Bulera.
Overnight At Volcanoes Virunga Lodge. (b,l,d)
DAY 4 TUESDAY EXTENSION OR HEATHROW
Depart for Kigali. Time permitting, go for a tour of the city including
a visit to the market, a pottery project, handicraft shops, the
Franco-Rwandan cultural centre and the genocide memorial.
