Etosha National Park - Self Drive

 

Imagine driving through the 5000 square kilometres of National Park, sanctuary for both black and white rhinos, large herds of elephants, lions, an abundance of bird life and being able to stop wherever and whenever you want, you are now in Etosha.

DAY 1 HEATHROW-WINDHOEK
Fly overnight from Heathow via Johannesburg to Windhoek.

DAY 2 WINDHOEK-OTJIWARONGO
On arrival a Sense of Africa representative will meet you for a detailed briefing of your African adventure. Collect your vehicle, drive to Windhoek, then turning north drive to Otjiwarongo (250 km). Overnight: Ai Aiba Lodge or similar. (d)

DAY 3 ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Drive north to the Etosha National Park, one of Africa's largest and most diverse wilderness areas (350 km). Drive through the park game viewing en route to your Lodge. Overnight: Etosha Safari Lodge or similar. (b)

DAY 4 ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
A full day exploring Etosha. Overnight: Etosha Safari Lodge or similar. (b)

DAY 5 ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
This morning you will drive south-west, enjoying the variety of animals and birds that inhabit the park, and eagerly await the animals to appear at one of the waterholes. On your way to your next lodge, you will travel along the Etosha Pan, a vast saline desert that serves as the only source of salt for 114 different animal species as well as 340 different bird species that inhabit the park. Overnight at the Etosha Rest Camp, or similar. (b)

DAY 6 WINDHOEK
Drive south to Windhoek via Okahandja, where you can visit the large craft markets (450 km). Your route takes you between high mountain ranges back to the capital city, Windhoek. Overnight: Kalahari Sands Hotel or similar. (b)

DAY 7 WINDHOEK-HEATHROW
Today you will drive the short distance to the airport (50 km) for your flight via Johannesburg to Heathrow, or continue on another self-drive tour. (b)
